documentation

Oxford University has no reason to date identified. Oxford coach existed in one form or another since 1096, but it is much more secure, while the University had come into existence. [1] rapid growth was experienced in 1167, while English students from the University of Paris. The historian Gerald of Wales lectured such scientists in 1188, and the first known foreign student places, emotional Friesland, arrived in 1190. The top college grow to be appointed Chancellor, at least 1201 and teachers were recognized as Universitas or business of the company in 1231 University became a royal charter granted in 1248 during the reign of Henry III.

Students connected to each other on the premise of the geographical origin, the "nation", representing the North (Northern or Boreal, which included the British north of the Trent River and the Scots) and the South (Southern or South, which covers the English south of Trent, Irish and Welsh). In later centuries, geographical origins survived directed many college students of the University "membership, and membership in a college or hall became the standard in Oxford. Like this, members of many religious orders, along the side of the Dominicans, Franciscans, Carmelites and Augustinians, settled in Oxford in the second half 13th century, the effect obtained and the house or room for students of the university College is supported. [22] Around the same time, the school setting philanthropists do not have independent public research organizations. some of the earliest such founders were William Durham, who in 1249 He endowed university College, and John Balliol, father of the destination of the King of Scots; Balliol College bears his name [20] any other founder, Walter de Merton, Lord Chancellor of England and later Bishop of Rochester, has developed a number of proposals for university life Merton College thereby. , it has become a model for this type of facilities in Oxford and at Cambridge University. Since then, more and more students are no longer living in the theaters and spiritual homes for shelter in schools.

In 1333-1334, some students attempt to Oxford University gave disenchanted today in the city of Stamford, Lincolnshire became blocked useful resource for schools in Oxford and Cambridge, applicants King Edward III. From then until the 1820s, no new universities were not allowed to settle in England, including London; as a result, Oxford and Cambridge was a duopoly, it is rare in Western BUD international locations.

length of revival

In 1605, Oxford changed in the walled city yet, but Severa schools were built outside the city walls (north is at the bottom of the map)

a new area of the Renaissance greatly motivated Oxford from the late 15th century onwards. among college students at the time were William Grocyn, which contributed to the revival of the study of the Greek language, and John Colet, the famous Bible student.

With the Reformation and break ties with the Roman Catholic Church, students recusantes Oxford fled to continental Europe, settling in particular, of the University of Douai. [29] The method of teaching at Oxford, became converted renaissance of medieval scholasticism technical training, although institutions associated with the university suffered loss of land and income. In the center of education and science, Oxford's reputation declined in the Enlightenment; registrations decreased and training has been neglected.

In 1636, Chancellor William Laud, Archbishop of Canterbury, the codification of the university statute. This, to a large extent, the rules have been preserved until the middle of the nineteenth century. Cricket History

It is said that you have to be born in cricket. Me, I like it. An American friend once described it as "a Valium baseball"
The origins of the game of cricket are lost in the mists of time. There is a point of reference in the accounts of King Edward I in 1300 house in a very similar game cricket is played in Kent.
The English game was born in the country sheep farming Southeast, where the short grass pastures made possible bowling or roll a ball of wool cloth or a white. This goal was usually the lawn wicket sheep, which was defended with personnel on the form of herding bat.
In fact, there were actually a number of different games played in a variety of local regulations. The idea of a unique hobby that evolves to perfection in the sport we know and love is attractive, but it is not very likely. However, hitting a ball with a stick seems to have been a popular pastime. Whatever the variety, or the origin of the games played, the record shows that Eduardo II exercised a bat, and it was suggested that Oliver Cromwell also plays the game. In fact, "bat" is an old English word that means stick or club. The first types of bats were very similar to hockey clubs long stick, heavy curved outwards towards the bottom. The design reflects the type of bat bowling prevalent bowls quickly, rolling on the floor under the armpits. In the eighteenth century, the bat had become a heavier longer version curve of our modern bat handle and the blade carved from a single piece of wood.
The first recorded cricket match was held in Kent in 1646, and at the end of 1600, fines were effectively put out for those who lost their church to play. Grillo was very popular and widely documented in England during the end of 1700. In 1706, William Goldwyn published the first description of the game. Wrote that two teams were seen for the first time to take their place curved sticks, the choice of a step and discuss the rules. They planted two sets of rings, each with a "white as milk" constraint is perched on two parts, will be tossed a coin for the first shot, the referee has called "game" and "Skin Orb" was hit. He had in four balls, referees have been supported by their staves (the batsmen had to play to complete a race), and statistics sat on a mound notching.
The first written "laws" Cricket were established in 1744. They stated, "managers must choose between the gentlemen present two arbitrators who will decide absolutely all disputes. Strains should be twenty inches tall and rescue through them six inches . the ball must be between five and six ounces, and the two series of twenty yards away stumps. "there were no limits to the shape or size of the bat. It seems like 40 notches was seen as a big shot, probably because of the fast bowlers in the shins without pads. first world cricket club was formed in Hambledon in 1760, and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) was founded in 1787.
Over the 1760s and 1770s, it has become common to throw the ball in the air instead of rolling on the floor. This innovation gave bowlers weapons of deception through the air, the length, the higher the rate. It 'also opened up new possibilities for round and round. In response, the batsmen had to dominate shot selection and timing. An immediate consequence of this was the replacement of the curve with a straight bat. All this raises the importance of the capacity and decreases the influence of terrain and brute force. It 'was in 1770 that the modern game began to take shape.
The weight of the ball is limited to between half past five and five and three quarters oz bat and the width of four inches. The latter decision was taken after an item from a batter called "Shock" White, who appeared with a bat of the window width. In 1774, the first phase before the law was published. Also in this period, a third strain has become commonplace.
In 1780, three days had become the duration of this game, and the same year also saw the creation of the first six cricket ball stitching. In 1788, the MCC has published its first review of the laws that prohibited charging an opponent and also provided by cut and cover the window to help keep things just right.
The standardization desire reflects the sharp increase in the popularity of the game in the eighteenth century. Between 1730 and 1740, one hundred fifty cricket matches have been recorded in the newspapers of the time. Between 1750 and1760, this figure rose to two hundred thirty between 1770 and 1790, more than five hundred.
The nineteenth century saw a number of important changes in the game. large deliveries were banned in 1811. The circumference of the ball is specified for the first time in 1838 (his weight has decided sixty years before). Pads, cork, were available for the first time in1841, and these are further developed after the invention of vulcanized rubber, which was also used to introduce protective gloves in 1848. In 1870, the introdujeron- limits above, all access must be executed, and whether the ball went into the crowd, spectators had cleared a path for fieldsman reach the ball. The biggest change, however, was shaped like a ball was delivered by the pitcher.
Early in the century, all of the underarm bowling ball bowlers follows. However, as the story goes, John Willes became the first pitcher to use a technique of "round-arm" after practicing with his sister Cristina, who had used the technique, since she was able to go bowling underarm because of its great dress to prevent the delivery of the ball. In 1816, in response to the growing number of bowlers who now use "round-arm" MCC has established "the ball must be delivered sneaky, not thrown or hit with the hand below the elbow, at the time of launch ball."
Previously, no legislation was needed. However, by the 1830s, back and arm had become increasingly popular, and finally allows the MCC in 1835 worthy of enabling any provision "Do not throw or hit on the hand or arm does not go over the shoulder." In 1860, things had developed further, and some players were experiencing overarm, but was banned by the game rules. In practice, some authorized officials, while others call it "no-ball".
As you can see, the operators in the armpit and arm forward and left in the game and in no way have been successful. However, the majority of new players using overarm, and since 1880, has been the most favored way of ball throwing. Interestingly, your arm back and disappeared before the armpit, which was still in use until World War Since Australia sent first fully overarm attack in 1878, now it seems extraordinary that England selected from time once in the underarm bowling players, even in the early twentieth century. The most famous, Simpson-Hayward tour of South Africa in 1909-1910, and the "lobster" was the most successful player in England bowling with 23 branches in 18 each.
Later, it became recognizable criminal cricket game played today, despite the many changes from the first leg layoffs, the intimidating bowling no balls, weight of bats, wickets blankets and protective clothing. Following the recent tour of South Africa, England, the thought of Harrison walk up to the window ball and the delivery of arms does not have a certain charm, and it is tempting to suggest that the worst results could hardly achieve with old technique modeled.
Trescothick surely love with oversized bat Blanca shock to prevent the power input Ntini made a terrible mess of his stumps in the final nail-biting to the series. Kallis, of course, has spent most of the series that looks as if it was doing exactly that, but that's another story.

In January thirty-one, 1860, nys legislature, needing to stay clear of increasing fees, handed down a great react permitting the cash set aside with the College regarding Arizona to rather double intended for frontier safeguard within western world Arizona to defend settlers by American indian problems.  Texas' secession on the Union and the American Municipal Conflict delayed payment in the copied monies. By the end in the Municipal Conflict within 1865, The actual College regarding Texas' endowment was comprised of slightly in excess of $16, 000 within warrantsand absolutely nothing substantive got still recently been accomplished to set up this university's functions. " In addition, Post 7, Section 11 in the 1876 Metabolism founded this Long term College Fund, the sovereign prosperity deposit handled through the Aboard regarding Regents in the College regarding Arizona and devoted with the maintenance in the school. Mainly because some express legislators understood a great extravagance inside the structure regarding academic houses regarding some other educational facilities, Post 7, Section 18 in the Metabolism exclusively prohibited this legislature by using the California's normal earnings to finance structure regarding just about any school houses. Money intended for creating school houses were required to originated from this university's endowment or even by exclusive gifts towards the school, nevertheless in business bills with the school may originated from this California's normal income.

Alfred University

Alfred University is a small, comprehensive university in the Village of Alfred, Allegany County in Western New York, USA, south of Rochester and southeast of Buffalo. Alfred has an undergraduate population of around 2,000, and approximately 300 graduate students. The institution has five schools and colleges. Alfred was founded in 1836 as the Select School by Seventh Day Baptists as a non-sectarian institution.Unusual for the time, the school was co-educational. It was also racially integrated, and enrolled its first African-American student and two Native American students in the 1850s, becoming the second college in the nation after Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, to do so.

The origin of the name "Alfred" is uncertain. Residents of the town and students at the two schools believe that the town received its name in honor of Alfred the Great, king of the Saxons, although the first documented occurrence of this connection was in 1881, 73 years after the first record of the name being used to describe the geophysical area during assignments by the state legislature. State records which might have verified the connection between the Saxon king and the university were lost in a fire in 1911.Regardless of whether the connection is historically accurate, Alfred University has embraced King Alfred as a symbol of the school's values, and a statue of the king stands in the center of the campus quad.

Since its founding, Alfred University has hosted guest lecturers, artists and musicians from Ralph Waldo Emerson to Ghostface Killah.[8] In April 2000, Alfred University received national attention when freshman, Eric Zuckerman, orchestrated a campus visit from then First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton, during her campaign for the United States Senate.
Alfred University, together with Corning Incorporated and the State of New York created the Ceramic Corridor, a high-tech incubator project designed to take advantage of the emerging ceramics industry and to create new jobs. This unique industrial development program is the only one in the United States concentrating on one single aspect of technology – high-tech ceramics – and it is the only major industrial development project centered in a rural area in the U.S.

Alfred University is not to be confused with the Alfred State College. Although autonomous, both institutions have their origins in the Alfred Select School, and were heavily shaped by Boothe C. Davis. In 1908 Davis petitioned the New York State Legislature to fund the New York State College of Agriculture at Alfred University.

In 1941 Alfred State College became an autonomous junior college due to increased enrollment and increasing needs, which Alfred University could not accommodate, and in 1948 became a member of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Students of both schools still share a few Alfred peculiarities including: a physical education requirement for most programs, a short break in October dubbed "minibreak", sharing of clubs and organizations (excluding Greek lettered organizations), and cross-registration of classes not offered at the other institution.

Alfred University's mascot is the Saxon, a knight in shining armor. Since the year 871 is when King Alfred the Great succeeded his brother, Ethelred I as King of Wessex and Mercia (see Alfred the Great's childhood), the phone exchange of Alfred University is 871 (i.e., all AU phone numbers take the form 1-607-871-xxxx).

Hot Dog Day is held in early April of each year since 1972 at Alfred to raise money for local charities and community-based civic organizations. It is a joint project with Alfred State College coordinated by students and staff from both schools. Typical events include a carnival, small amusement park rides, mud olympics, concerts, a parade, and the consumption of hot dogs. In recent years approximately $7,000 to $8,000 has been raised for charities including the local fire departments, public library, and day care centers.

Alfred's Davis Memorial Carillon, erected in 1937 as a tribute to longtime president Boothe C. Davis, can often be heard while on campus. The bells of the carillon, purchased from Antwerp, were thought to be the oldest bells in the western hemisphere. Research later (2004) showed that the bells were of a more recent vintage, and that Alfred had been the victim of a fraud. On the brighter side, the non-historic nature of the bells allows the university to replace those that have poor tonal quality. Concerts continue four times a week when school is in session (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:30 pm and Saturday at 4 pm), and during the summer months at least once a week. Besides the resident carilloneur, guest carilloneurs have in the past frequently visited and played during the summer.

The Black Knight-has been a part of Alfred University folklore for a long time. The relic was originally part of a parlor stove in a classroom in Kanakadea Hall. When the stove was discarded, the figure was claimed by the Class of 1908 as their mascot. They passed it on to the Class of 1910, thus causing a "war of possession" between the even and odd numbered classes. Many times over the years it disappeared and re-appeared on campus. After a particularly long time away it was returned in 1977 and placed in the University Archives. In 2005 it was transferred to a glass case in the Powell Campus Center along with a plaque describing its history. Many students had heard of the Black Knight during their freshmen orientation and were delighted to have him on display. However, after only a few months, the glass enclosure was destroyed in the middle of the night and the Black Knight stolen. Alfred University was mentioned on Saturday Night Live once in 1975 by host and Alfred University alumnus Robert Klein. When Klein hosted SNL again in 1977, he talked at length about Alfred University in his monologue.
