Afghanistan Tour Suspended Due To Security Risks
After last Sunday’s devastating terrorist attack in the eastern city of Lahore which claimed the life of over 70 people, Pakistan suspended the well-anticipated visit of the Afghanistan cricket team.
The Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) was preparing to host their neighbouring team for a four-day game against Pakistan A including another three one-day internationals in Lahore and Karachi.
A visit like this hasn’t happened since 2009 when the Sri Lankan Cricket team bus was attacked by terrorists by terrorists in Lahore and most recently, last year when Zimbabwe played a brief one-day series in Lahore.
On Thursday, Ajmad Bhatti, a spokesman for the PCB informed the Associated Press that the Cricket boards in both countries were in discussions over the matter and have agreed to “call off due to overall security situation in the country.
