University of Notre Dame
The University of Notre Dame began seriously cool late at night November 26, 1842, when a 28-year-old French minister, Rev. Edward Sorin, CSC, and seven partners, each of the people in Congregation of Holy Cross recently settled, took ownership of 524 snowy land that the Bishop of Vincennes had given them in the fields of Indiana mission sections.
A man of strong creative energy, Father Sorin named his daughter from school to pay homage to the Virgin in their local language "L'Universite de Notre Dame du Lac" (The University of Our Lady of the Lake). On January 15, 1844, the University was thus authoritatively sanctioned by the Council of Indiana.
unshakable will of the Father Sorin best shown in April 1879, when a terrible fire devastated the main building, which essentially occupies the entire University. Saying "On the off chance that everyone had gone, I must not give up," Father Sorin used 300 workers daily over half the year and remade the structure still stands, beat by a brilliant golden dome .

Earlier Notre Dame was a school in the name as it were. religious, schools and novitiates preliminary grade and school physical work was included, however, university education programs established never took more than twelve alternates a year in the early decades.
Given the ratio studiorum used by the Jesuits at the University of St. Louis, these educational modules include four years of humanities, verse, talk and theory, plus offers French, German, Spanish and Italian and different types of music and drawing.
Initiative
Notre Dame appreciates the support of a Board of Directors recognized, collecting and senior members. These people come together for the initiative fabulous college. This partnership will be more imperative than any other time in recent memory the years just ahead, while we strive to achieve our goal of making the University of Notre Dame a transcendental exploration with a Catholic particular character and duty first class undergraduate training.

Elected in 2005 as president of the University of Notre Dame XVII, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., is committed to cultivate special point of the University in the educated community, the Church, our country and the world. A rationalist prepared in religious philosophy and a person of the Department of Philosophy at Notre Dame since 1990, Father Jenkins earned a degree and propelled degrees of Notre Dame, a doctorate from the logic of Oxford University, and an expert godlikeness holy degree in philosophy from the Faculty of Theology.

Thomas G. Burish was elected the fourth chief executive of the University of Notre Dame, on 21 July 2005. Dr. Burish served as president of the University of Washington and Lee 200205 and was executive Vanderbilt University, 1993 2002. After graduating from Notre Dame in 1972, Dr. Burish put experts and doctorate in brain science and brain science clinic at the University of Kansas.

John F. AffleckGraves official was elected Vice President of April 30, 2004, by the Board of Trustees. Dr. AffleckGraves Chairholder of Notre Dame in Finance and has long served as executive VP and partner. Administration
The University of Notre Dame is managed by a two-layer structure (Scholars of the University and the Board of Directors), in which laymen and women have joined with religious of the Indiana Province of the Holy Cross in the administration of University. Fellows of the University are a "self-sufficient body," consisting of six people who at all times must be "people of the Priestly Society of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Indiana Province, six of which could be people laywomen. " Fellows are partners in the office of the first authors of the University and among different requirements forces decide to be appointed to the Board of Trustees.
